Happy Birthday to Me!

Ok, so my birthday was actually last week but I've been so busy I only just got a chance to edit the photos. I had a lovely but understated birthday this year. My parents took me out to my favourite coffee shop in the afternoon and then we came back and had an intimate family dinner. I went with a floral theme this year.

My cake was lemon and decorated with edible flowers. I also had lavender lemonade with violas frozen in icecubes. For the main course we had a salad and a quiche. There were also chocolate truffles, an Earl Grey flavour and a rose flavoured type. Everything was made from scratch by me.

My mother wrapped all my gifts in beautiful floral paper. I didn't want very much this year, but in the end I got two farming books, some dish towels, and a stunning paper-doll book of 1930's fashions. 22 is not too old for paper dolls, especially ones as stunning as these!

Britt came over after dinner, and we went out for coffee and thrifting. She even dressed up! I forgot to photograph the lovely gifts she bought me, but they included a book on herbs, a 1940's copy of Pollyanna, and a decorative tin with a 1910's illustration on it.

It's been a busy week, but I'm taking the weekend off to relax. And hopefully I will be able to get some of my sewing projects done, as well as my embroidery projects. Aren't they cute so far?

Featured! (and new youtube video)

I am so happy to be featured on Pocketchange 's Best of the Web as one of the style blogs for this week! Here's a link to the post. (I was originally going to be part of the Pocketchange's Be In Style section's blog of the week feature but the two posts were combined).

I've also just put up a new youtube video. It was a bit of an experiment with my new laptop and new webcam but I think it turned out all right. Enjoy!

New Laptop and Long Hair

Well I've finally got a new laptop! I also bought a fancy new webcam so expect some more of my hairstyling videos soon. Speaking of hairstyling, yesterday I actually wore my hair down for the first time months. It's really getting long! I wear it up 98% of the time (even when just lounging around the house) so I forget how long it really is. I'm not sure if it's more Victorian or flower child, but I love it.

Fairy Garden

I spent a bit of time out in the garden last week, when the weather was still lovely, working on getting my small garden back into shape. My dad is the main gardener in the family and we have quite an impressive flower garden and also a rooftop vegetable garden. I have a very small, rather shady plot in the backyard that I grow lavender and a few other herbs in. I love gardening but I'm afraid I've killed a heck of a lot of plants over the years....

My small plot of garden
I bought a few herbs at the garden centre that needed more sunlight than my poor little garden could provide. So I decided to make a "fairy garden" in an old urn that I could move to a sunnier spot. I thought it turned out rather cute, but I do wish I could have found a bigger pot as my plants are a little crowded.

The bench I made myself with hot glue and some sticks. The birdhouse came from an old faux-flower arrangement mother was given. The stones form a short pathway through the mini garden.

I do hope my little garden survived the terrible storm we had last night. When the weather calms down, I will need to go outside and assess the damage. It will give me something to do as I still haven't gotten a new laptop (my goal for next week is to buy a new one).
